Alvaro de Castro
Quinta da Pellada
Quinta da Pellada
Dão, Portugal
When he inherited the property in Pinhanços, in the district of Guarda, whose first historical references date back to 1570, Álvaro de Castro started working the land, re-establishing the family tradition of wine production that had been interrupted.
Sheltered from the Atlantic winds by the three mountain ranges of Serra da Estrela, Buçaco and Caramulo, nature is protective and fruitful in just the right measure.
He intervened as little as possible in the soil and in the vines and, at 37 years old, he produced his first wine, exploring the potential of the old vines, responsible for the creation of varieties of excellence in the Dão Demarcated Region. The estates of Saes and Outeiro further enriched the wines portfolio.
